8 Ways to Visit Sioux Falls on a Budget
We all consider it a win if we can save a few dollars in today’s economy, so here are a few ways you can enjoy an affordable trip to Sioux Falls without sacrificing fun activities on your itinerary.
Free First Friday
Visit the Washington Pavilion on the first Friday of every month for free admission to its museums starting at 5pm. Let the kids have fun exploring hands-on activities and exhibits in the Kirby Science Discovery Center or admire incredible works of art in the galleries. The Washington Pavilion also offers half off admission rates after 3pm every day.
Bonus: many shops in Downtown Sioux Falls also offer discounts and promotions during the first Friday of each month.
SculptureWalk
Did you know SculptureWalk is the world’s largest annual exhibit of public sculptures? See over 80 sculptures year-round scattered throughout Downtown Sioux Falls. The sculptures are replaced with new ones each year, but you can have a say in which one gets to stay for permanent display by voting for your favorite.
Falls Park Farmers Market
From May through October you will find a hub of activity on Saturday mornings at the Falls Park Famers Market. While of course it costs money to purchase items from the many vendors, roaming the market however is free, and several vendors even offer free samples of food. Take a stroll and enjoy the soothing tunes of live musical performances in the background.
Good Earth State Park
Visit the land that was home to some of the earliest human civilizations. With signs of Native Americans settling in the area dating back to 1300 AD, Good Earth State Park is a beautiful escape just minutes outside of Sioux Falls. Walk the well-maintained trails and enjoy several different viewing platforms along the way. Learn all about the area inside the visitor center which is filled with exhibits and artifacts that have been found in the area. Enter the park for just $15 per car ($10 for South Dakota residents).
Ride a Ferris Wheel
Give the kids the joy of riding a Ferris wheel without having to wait for a fair to do so. SCHEELS has a 45-foot indoor Ferris wheel that runs year-round. Best of all, the cost is just $1 per person. Sweeten your outing with a visit to the onsite Fuzziwig’s Candy Factory where you’ll find a variety of candies and chocolates.

Outdoor Campus
Not only does the Outdoor Campus have a system of walking trails throughout the grounds, but you can also try your hand at a wide range of activities offered throughout the year, all for free! Activities include everything from fishing to archery, paddling, snowshoeing, and more. Just be sure to plan ahead because some activity classes require registration.
Japanese Gardens
While a visit to the Japanese Gardens is beautiful year-round, the peak time to visit is typically in May when the trees and plants have blossomed. The Japanese Gardens has become a favorite spot among locals for photos and even just a spot to sit and soak up the serenity of the area. There is no cost to enter.
Levitt at the Falls
If you’re planning a trip to Sioux Falls during the summer, be sure to include Levitt at the Falls in your itinerary. From June to September there are free concerts on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings that feature many different genres. Bring a blanket to sit on the ground, pack your own lawn chairs, or rent lawn chairs onsite for just $5 each. You can also bring your own food or purchase a freshly made meal from one of the food trucks.

More Ways to Save
Sioux Falls is a great destination for families because of the many free things to do throughout the city.
